Found at 48.72° N latitude and 3.97° W longitude, Roscoff serves as a prominent coastal location in France. Its tidal pattern is mixed semi-diurnal (unequal tidal heights across the day), with a mean tidal range of 4m and spring tides reaching up to 6.2m. The tidal force here has historically powered tidal mills and, more recently, underwater electricity generators. Significant diurnal inequality in mixed tides generates stronger currents when falling from the higher high water to the lower low water. Its geographic position creates unique interactions between oceanic swell and local tidal currents.
